APU Summertime Challenge in Review

What an incredible 8 weeks of fitness! The excitement and support that was created by the APU community was so much fun. Here are just a few of our favorite highlight moments for the past 8 weeks!

First, we had a lot of creativity going on over the 8 weeks of the challenge! Whether it was everyday things like mowing the lawn with @pomonafarmer and cleaning like @nconner, making a creative use of space like @ckonoske’s infamous dorm stair workouts, or crazy fun things like hamster ball races and laser tag posted by @stephfitch- so many of you revealed that there are many more ways to get into shape than just a simple run!

Dog’s prove once again that they are man’s best friend, by getting their owners out the door and working their way into great health! We had way too many cute pooches featured in our workouts- just a few were featured by @christianbrazo, @wendymrn, @megebersole, and @babygu.

So many of the pictures that were shared look like they belong in a magazine! Is it just us, or is our world a beautiful place to explore and exercise in?! Just a few of our favorites from @dpeck0404, @marksevillanojr, @Christine, and @jhughes.

It may have taken a little creativity from all of you parents out there, but your workouts looked even more fun because of it! @jgrey, @JaimeFahey, @KWiedefeld, and @AmandaWebbHaras were a few of the many who posted workouts with their kids!

Finally, the goal of this challenge was to not only get you active and healthy over the summer, but to create a community to do it with! Whether it be workouts with family, friends, or even coworkers- it was really exciting to see all of the workouts that brought people together! @jimnasipak, @stephfitch, @dougfields, and @dpeck0404 were once again, a few of the many that posted workouts that brought a big smile to our faces!

The APU Summer Challenge was great! All of us at PK Fitness are so thankful to each of the APU Challengers for being a part of the challenge, and being so dedicated and positive towards this program. It was each of you who made this program as fun as it was!

We hope that exiting this challenge you have a better understanding of what being fit means for you. It is our hope that you will take what you learned over the summer, and continue to invest yourself in the healthy habits that will lead to a longer, healthier, and happier life.

From all of us at PK Fitness,

And As always,

Stay fit,

Bryan Clay, Ed Leonard, Alex Weiner and Sydney Eaton

A Week in Review

What an amazing week of fitness! You all showed off some really fun stuff this week! Please check out a few of our favorites from this past week!

We had some great Olympic inspired workouts posted by @markufert and @KentWalkemeyer.

We had workouts posted from a full variety of climates including workouts from @abarton, @seckberg, @nickdevera, and @stephfitch.

@dpeck0404 posted a beautiful workout from Azusa’s very own backyard!

We had some fun workouts posted by @ekemp who reminded us that you can play a game and get your workout in at the same time, and @nconner reminded us that some activities can kill two birds with one stone with her cleaning inspired workout.

@Kcross featured a lovely photo of a few of the members from the Ladies Walking Club!

And finally, @markufert I am not sure how you ran after eating this, but props to you!

Week #7 was so fun! Thanks to each and every one of you who keep finding new ways to get your workouts in and share your encouragement with your friends and those in the community! This last week is all we have left, so let’s give it all we got!

PK Tip:

If you are having issues with your heart rate sensor, they work better with a little moisture. This can usually be helped by a little sweat, but for starters while you’re starting dry, maybe lick your finger and put it on the back of the sensor where it is doing it’s reading! It may sound odd, but it really can help!

As always,

Stay fit,

Bryan Clay

What an inspiring week to watch all of your progress and fun workouts posted to the app! As the weeks progress we get to see each of your character shine just a little more through your workout posts. Slowly we have gotten to see more family, loved ones, and furry friends as the weeks progress! It is truly motivating to see what keeps each of you going during the week! Here are just a few of the workouts that got us inspired this week!

To start us off @jhughes, @jvinatieri, and @psmart100 provided us with some drool worthy views!

We also had an abundance of little ones featured in this week’s workouts. @shubie13, @amandawebbharas, and @kwiedefeld were able to create some family fun and reach their goals at the same time!

@gmwood, and @nickdevera7 showed off some stunning hikes! Definitely worth the view!

We had some lovely strolls featured by @pkchallenger, and @stephfitch. What excellent ways to get some activity in, and to make use of a few nearby iconic locations.

Thanks for sharing this mouth watering photo @christianbrazo. I wonder how many people went and got a donut because of this picture??

Last but not least @nateingalls you have us dying to know if you really saw a kangaroo in Glendora California

That wraps up Week #4, thanks to all of you for making it so incredible! Let’s make the last half of this challenge even more impressive than the first. We are faster, stronger, and more capable to make these next four weeks count!

PK Tip:

You can have a different display name from your username. And you can change the display name whenever you want. Go to your profile page, go to edit profile, and edit the first setting which is your display name. Your username will still be the same, but you will be able to display the name that you are commonly known by, so that your friends will be able to find you!

It has been so fun to see all of the interaction that is going on- whether it be through workouts together, or through comments on the app. We hope you are as excited as we are about the encouraging community that is starting to form. What a great week to watch motivation grow, and support build! Here are just a few of the highlights from Week #3!

It was great to see @noriconner and @vfrench get inventive with their workout tools this week! Nori made use of some furniture sliders, while Veronica put her brick wall to use for some step ups! Excellent creativity ladies!

@naomispinella, @jhughes, @christine, and @rfrancis displayed some breathtaking views from their workouts this past week, reminding us of all of all of the beauty and adventure we are blessed to have right outside our doors, in this summer weather!

static1.squarespace-19.png

The Skate Dance Party @kwiedefeld posted with her family made us want to dance! Who doesn’t like sliding in socks, and Justin Timberlake?

We always appreciate a good workout selfie! Thanks to @pomonafarmer, and @dougfields among so many others who proudly embellished their workouts with a happy face!

Last but not least, the Pokemon Go! featured workouts by @nateingalls, @christianbrazo, and @rmaljian were awesome! Whatever it takes to get you out the door!

Incredible week everyone! I can’t wait to see what can be accomplished in Week #4 ,as we get stronger and healthier. We are almost halfway done with the challenge, so let’s get moving! Let me leave you with this PK Fitness tip.

PK Tip:

If you don’t have a profile picture, it isn’t too late to add one. This is a great way to add a face to a name for your fellow APU colleagues, and it’s also a great way to spice up your account. To add a profile picture go to the ‘Me’ tab of your PK Fitness account. Click on ‘edit profile’ in the top right hand corner, and click on the ‘Profile Picture’ section of this page. Select a photo, and Voila!

You can also change your display name in the same place! While you can pick any display name that you prefer, its best to simply use your first and last name if you want people to easily find you on the app. If you don't, you can keep your incognito name...all your choice!

As always,

Stay fit,

Bryan Clay

APU Summertime Fitness Challenge- Week #2

Hello APU Challengers!

We had a fantastic second week of the challenge as we now have 142 APU faculty and staff taking part in the challenge! The second week was all about making adjustments, and getting settled into a routine. We greatly appreciated all of your patience as us at PK had to make some adjustments of our own.

We had 80 of the 142 participants complete the challenge for week! Not bad considering it was holiday, and we are still getting new users up and running! Great job everyone! If you were one of the 80, congratulations on reaching those weekly goals! Now it’s time to get after Week 3. If you weren’t able to meet the challenge requirements in prior weeks, now it’s time to get moving!

Weekly Prize Winner - Week #2

Congratulations to Denise Dally (@dally7777) for meeting the first week APU Summertime Challenge and for being drawn from all those that completed the challenge to win this week's Nutrishop gift basket!

It has been so great to see the creativity shine through in all of the workouts this week. We love seeing all of your comments and encouragement towards each other posted on workouts- APU has proven to be a community that is supportive, fun, and like family. It’s been fun to see all of your workouts and pictures. Here are just a few of the highlights from week #2.

We had way too many cute kids featured in workouts this week. @jcaouette and @melissacummings were just a few of those who took their littles ones along for the ride!

While we’re on the topic of cute things we also had an incredible number of adorable pups as workout companions this week. @megebersole, @wendymrn, and @naomispinella were just a few of those who showed off their model pooches, making the rest of us wish we had a dog.

@ckonoske reminded us that you can do a stair workout almost anywhere, by putting the freshmen dorms to good use.

@oehrhart and @psmart100 got out and enjoyed the beautiful summer weather from dream-like workout locations. Don’t forget that you can get your workouts in from wherever you are!

@kwiedefeld reminded us that you don't have to stay on dry land to get a good workout in!

@ddhunter proved that there may be no better time than post-workout to take a glamour shot, with his stylin' selfie.

Finally, my personal favorite, @danae and @coryjustus showed off their delicious treats! They showed us that it’s good to reward yourself every once in a while.

We are off to a fantastic start. I am so proud of all of the workouts from this past week, and can’t wait to see all of the new ground to be reached in Week 3. Let me leave you with this PK Fitness tip!

PK Tip:

If you notice a friend hasn’t worked out in a while, and needs to get started on their weekly goals, give them a nudge! To nudge a friend, go to their profile and press the nudge button located at the top of their profile to the right of their profile picture. Hopefully this will give them the encouragement they need to get moving! And if you do get a nudge, time to get moving!!

As always,

APU Summertime Fitness Challenge- Week #1

Greetings APU Challengers!

Welcome to the first of series of periodic emails that I will be sending out over the course of the next 7 weeks of the challenge. That’s right, only 7 weeks left of the 8-week challenge!!

We had a great first week of the APU Summertime Challenge as more than 125 APUers committed to the challenge! The week was filled with getting sensors, setting up accounts and figuring out how to use PK Fitness. Even with the chaos of the first week, we had about 100 of the 125 people participate in the first week challenge!

If you were one of the 100, congratulations on a great start! Now it’s time to stay strong and “go hard” again this week, week 2 of 8.

If you weren’t able to meet the week #1 challenge, now’s the time for a fresh start for week #2! Remember that the challenge goals start fresh every Monday so it’s time to get moving now!

Weekly Prize Winner - Week #1

Congratulations to Michelle Cross (@chellebelle) for meeting the first week APU Summertime Challenge and for being drawn from all those that completed the challenge to win this week's Asics gift basket!

Week #1 Winner - Michelle Cross (@chellebelle)

A Week in Review

It’s been great to see the APU community come alive on PK Fitness with lots of interaction, encouragement and support across the challenge participants. As you all know, support is such an important part of achieving any goal you have, in your workouts, in your faith and in your life. So make sure to follow others in the challenge and like, comment and otherwise encourage your fellow challengers!  It’s also been super fun to see the variety of workouts that everyone has done in the first week of the challenge. Here’s just sample of some of the activity that we’ve seen.

@debdowning showed us that running shoes are optional with her “Wrong Socks=Big Blister…” workout as she finished her 5k in her flips flops!

@fitnessgirl and @jimnasipak reminded us of the blessing of Southern California with their workouts “Walk on the Beach” and “Run, Beach, and the Word a Great Sunday”.

@fatguyinalittlecoat, @nateingalls and @marksevillanojr reminded us that workouts can happen just about anywhere with their workouts “Mexico Prayer Walk”, “Searching for Coffee @ 8,000ft” and “Walking around California Adventure”.

@kwiedefeld reminded us that workouts can take many form with her workouts “Car Wash + Jumping Jacks” and “Family Dance Party”. Way to go @ kwiedefeld!

static1.squarespace-8.png

We’ve had lots of workouts from the Student Life Women’s Walking Club. Way to go ladies!

Finally, PK user @dpeck0404 gave us a great shot of Glendora’s own peacock family and a pretty goofy selfie in his workouts “Short Run” and “APU Summer Fitness 1, Serious Fun!” workouts.

We’re off to a great start and I look forward to seeing everyone’s progress this week! Let me leave you with this PK Fitness tip!

PK Tip:

Remember that only minutes above an effort of 50 are credited against your 25-minute workout goal! If your workout falls short of the 25 minutes above 50, simply do another workout for the missing minutes. Workout minutes accumulate for the day so there’s always time to get your daily workout goal met before the strike of midnight! If you miss your daily goal of 25 minutes, the time resets the following day.

Stay fit,

Bryan Clay
